WELCOME

As the specialty food industry has settled into this “new normal,” we have seen shifts in trends that many believe will become lasting habits, such as cooking at home, take out dining and online food sales.

In the Specialty Food Association’s, The State of the Specialty Food Industry report, it notes that specialty food sales grew 24 percent at retail from 2018-2020, and 19.4 percent in 2020 alone. Categories related to cooking at home soared, including pasta sauces and frozen entrees. In 2020, specialty food sales accounted for 21.5 percent of all food sales, up more than one full percentage point of share since 2018.

While the ongoing pandemic has impacted the specialty food industry, it certainly hasn’t stopped growing during this time. We are resilient and will hope to sustain growth through 2025, as forecasted in the report, thanks to developing consumer habits and preferences in the kitchen.

Bon appétit!
